If your engine fails to start today, would you know how to test the battery? Testing your car battery is an easy do-it-yourself task, even if you don't have any mechanical experience. And New South Ford wants you to know how to do it!
First, you will need a digital multimeter, which can be purchased from most parts stores in Meridian, MS, or Eutaw, AL. Be sure that you have a set of safety glasses and protective gloves. Then, locate the battery. Typically, it's under the hood, but you may need to refer to your owner's manual to find it. Make sure the ignition and all power accessories are off.
In this order, using the multimeter, touch the negative battery terminal with the black multimeter lead. Then, touch the positive battery terminal with the red multimeter lead. Turn the multimeter "DC" setting on, and the results of the battery voltage and charge status will display on the multimeter screen.
